Lavelles bakery, Main Street (remember the slogan: The Best in the West); Comers, Thomas Street (Eat the best, forget the rest); Hamrocks, Newtown; Morans, Newport Road; Paddy Golden, Spencer Street; Gavin's, Main Street (one of the Gavin family, Tommy, a lovely tenor, won a gold medal at Feis Slighigh in 1928}; Gavins, Knockthomas; John Jennings, Castlebar (pastries); Charles McCormack, The Mall (John Hanley's old shop). St. Mary's Hospital also had its own bakery {some of the staff were Mattie Flannelly, Jimmy Neary, Billy FoY, Mr. Gallagher, Spencer Street).
