Hi
I have been seeking information on The Connaught Rangers particulary the 1st Battalion.
My Grandfather was a member of the Connaught Rangers. Colour Sgt John Kelly No 4744, i do believe that he was stationed in India, and in the 1914/1918. I have his original Rank Markings
plus all his medals from Connaught Rangers 7 in total. He later went on to join the Irish Army where he attained the rank of Corporal in the MP Section No 32724.And was awarded the The emergency Service medal and Long Service Medal with Bar he died at the age of 93. His youngest Son Joe ( my father) recently deceased aged 83 served for 42 years in the Irish Army and retired as Barrack Sgt Major,in the Military College Curragh Camp, he also received the Emergency Service medal and Long Service Medal with Bar plus a medal for service in the Congo and Cyprus. My father had six sons of whom I am the eldest, I to served in the Irish Defence forces and retired a Sgt having served in the Lebanon on three occasions and Cyprus on 1 my five brothers have also served with the Defence forces and 2 are still in service. My son and Daughter are also serving with the FCA now known as the Reserve Defence forces both attaining the rank of Sgt at present. So you can see that we have come from a long line of Soldiers since the days of the Connaught Rangers. There are a lot of medals in my possession, All my Grandfathers both armies my Fathers, my own and someday God willing will go on to my Son the Reserve Defence Force Soldier.Total Medals for the four Generations 20 in all. I hope this will be of interest to you. I also have citations, references etc from my Grandfathers days in the Connaught Rangers.

Hope to Hear from you or someone that will point me in the right direction of information.

Kind Regards.

Joe Kelly
