The weir at Saleen,or the dam as we called it when we were kids,is very overgrown now but still effective in keeping a level of water in saleen. It's used for bushin now by the underage and the not so underage who prefer the stars as their roof and oppose the smoking ban,and the ever increasing price of a pint.
The fields around the dam are now almost all aforrested. The place is literally a stones throw from the end house of Gladesville or Aglish, which used to be a complete swamp when we made our many journies ''out the dam'' in the eighties. Then, the dam was way out of town.In fact it's not even a mile from the station but the straight stretch of track seemed a lot longer than it is now as you had few landmarks other than the shot up yellow speed sign(50mph I think) to gauge your trip.I saw my first ever stoat out there one summers day.Myself and Pollack from McHale Road were having a cigarette and fishing from the bridge when the stoat shot out from the hospital side of the track and quickly vanished down the other side before we could even draw a rock from the thousands that lay beneath us.Memories.....don't you just love remembering them days when you had no care for what the time was other than morning or night.
