The word you are talking about is "Vagabond", but I have heard people saying it incorrectly sounding like "vagabone and bagabone". It was used in the form of no.2 or No.3. The other term you mentioned was indeed a "tick" or a sciortaśn (correct spelling)? and the "laen sciortaśn" being a lean or hungry one that would suck your blood!!
