I knew Chas. Guthrie and his wife Bridgie. His first wife, 'Babby' Cunningham, died a young woman. The Guthries had two sons, Frank and Joseph, and two daughters, Marie and Teresa, by Chas.'s second marriage. Some of the Cunningham families lived in Mons Terrace. One of them was known as 'Yank' Cunningham. Another of the Cunninghams, Molly, I think, married Jimmy O'Reilly, and the family lived at Newport Road. Frank Cunningham trained as a teacher and later became president of the Irish National Teachers Organisation; I went to school with Sean Cunningham, who now lives in Richard Street. Sonny Cunningham, another relative, lived at Market Square, Castlebar. I remember Paddy and Michael Cunningham, brothers of Sean; I also recall Matt and Eddie Cunningham, sons of Sonny, who emigrated to American, both now dead. The Cunninghams are a very old Castlebar family who stretch back many generations. Nice to hear from one of Castlebar's old stock. Happy Christmas.
