Ah yes - nostalgia for the old days when there were no phones ringing on the street, people didn't talk to themselves, the phonograph or radio hadn't been invented so if there was music on the street it was from buskers or orchestras. Of course the murder rate in Ireland in the early 1900s was way higher than it is now. Perhaps they had nothing to do - no radio no TV no late night parties?
