I dont think thats a good analogy at all.The famine definetly could have been prevented, especially by some of the same people (or their ancestors) who attened the banquet..It just dosent seem right.I was just astonished that such a banquet could have been planned and taken place with such a varied menu in Castlebar in 1901.My father would not yet have been born but my paternal grandparents would have been living in Castlebar ar the time. There were dinner dances in the 1950's and 60's albeit not as fancy as that banquet.Famines going on in the world today dont seem to stop people from over indulging I know. The devastation of the famine of 1847 and subsequent failures of the potato crop would have been still very much in peoples memories in 1901.I'm just surprised, not angry.
