The shop was set up for Josey who trained in the confectionary trade in Castlerea. It was once bombed by a disgruntled Tan while two of the sisters were present. The report in the CT was written without identifying the perpetrator.
Headed "bomb outrage in Castlebar" the report stated "On Friday night at 9.00 there was a dastardly bomb outrage in Castlebar, the shop of the Misses Dwyer, Ellison St being practically wrecked. There were two of them in the shop at the time and they state a amn, whom they did not identify, came to the shopdoor and rolled something into the shop and at the time they thought it was a bottle. The missile rolled close to the counter door and exploded with a terrific noise, doing terrible destruction. The counter and shelves were wrecked, goods destroyed, and front window shattered. The bomb bored a circular hole in the cement floor, shattered the counter door into matchwood and destroyed the contents of the shop. The Misses Dwyer, who suffered from concussion, fortunately escaped more serious injury. For some time after they were dazed and unable to make further investigation, and by the time assistance came the miscreant who perpetrated the outrage had got away."
