The debate on the course of the town river has been flogged to death on this board before. The river exiting from the "cut" at Church Lake follows a natural course through the town. I remain to be convinced why and how the river is supposed to have once flowed "up" Cavendish Lane area to Ellison St (several metres higher in elevation) then making a left in the area at the back of Ellison St. before heading for the Springfield area. An examination of the 1917 map shows the Bench Mark levels which indicate the entire Ellison St to be many measurements higher.
The story about the Clergyman and diocese boundaries holds no water for me. I thought diocesan boundaries were established aeons ago. I would love to become enlightened with more credible information about this.
