I am a Funeral Director for one of the oldest undertakers in the U.K.Having been established in 1789,and ever since been Family owned and run, based in north west london,Leverton & Sons have are now one of the leading family owned, independant Funeral Directors in the country. We have had the privilege of looking after many Families over the years most notably the funeral of, her Royal Highness,Elizabeth, the Queen mother, and also the most high profile funeral in recent years, that of Diana, Princess of Wales.Being from Mchale Road,Castlebar, I am very interested in the history of the Funeral profession in the town, given that the "ould stock crew" would have only known of"Rockys" and across the road on linnenhall St."Coadys".Kilcoynes were newcomers but nevertheless utterly professional..What a brilliant service they all provided to the beraeved of the town over the years. Would'nt it be great to source the history of these fundemental cornerstones of castlebar society?
Sooner or later everyone goes to the Funeral Director..Where did they originate and who started it all for their particular companies? and.... What stories they could tell!
