Hi Jackie,

My great grandparents on my fathers side were Gildea and I still have a living great uncle who is a Gildea. All were/are resident in the south west area of County Donegal, close to a town called Glenties.

Some members of this family are to be found in Summerhill in County Meath and more still in Dublin I think.

Try looking up 'Griffiths Valuation' a document held in the national library of Ireland in Dublin. It was an official census of land ownership/occupation of circa 1850 and encompassed the entire country. I don't know if you can do a search on the internet or if you have to call to the library in perso for a look.

All the best in your search.

P.
