The old pavillion, which used to be just the pavillion, is the building beside the tennis courts. It was a venue for youth clubs and hops. I remember Frankie Chambers playing there Sunday afternoons.Of course, everything was better in Ireland then, no boozing or violence on the streets, Mayo footballers winning things, hardy men and comely maidens at every crossroads between the Pavillion and the Gaiety ballroom. As Frank O Connor, the writer put ir: 'In Ireland, God smiles, the sun shines and the parish priest beams.' Any fond thoughts on the Pavillion hops anyone?
