From Paul Durcan`s Mary Magdalene at Sunday Mass in Castlebar ( Daddy, Daddy ) 1990 "With my head in my hands I am draped across a pew, The epitome of sanctimoniousness. I look up and observe in profile A middle-aged lady receiving Holy Communion From the parish priest at the altar rail. She is small, stout, stately, Balanced on black high heels, Red leather miniskirt, Red leather jacket with gold buttons, Black tights. She sticks out her bubbly pink tongue. When she carousels round to return Back down the centre aisle Her hands are pinnacled in prayer Between the cleavage of her breasts, Her violet varnished fingernails bejewelled In translucent violet Rosary beads, Violet purse under arm, ........." Paul Durcan was a frequent visitor to his father`s people in Turlough, Castlebar and Westport in the 50s and early 60s.
