Tish....Patricia Sweeney was one of my dearest childhood friends...in fact we had lots of good times together ...at the old cinema at the sunday 4penny afternoon matinne...we often played road tennis on the road outside our houses she lived at number 12 and I at at number 10...I remember when she and her family moved in to that house formerly occupied by Katie Cunnane.....they had beautiful goosebery bushes in the back yard....her grand mother Mrs Heavey would lean on the gate and every year I would bring her a rock from the reek...Mrs Heavey kindled my heart with her stories of London England....I would read her the Connaught telegraph every week....and she would show me movie magazines that one of her daughters bought... Jimmy sweeney...her brother was in my class at in St.Pats. national school.....Her dad was a chef in the county hospital before he moved to London....Patricia brought my first contact note to Mary Mc Donagh who became my wife when they both worked in the old cannery at the now gone bacon factory...Patricia and her sister Kathleen were my dearest friends...way back when McHale road was the best place in the world to grow up...Mc Hale road in the late forties and early fifties rang with play of all who grew up in that time...the Fairs, the Mc Gintys, the Whittakers, the Keanes, the Mc Ellins, The Moyletts, the Conways, the Guthries, etc: etc; once upon a good time...
farewell my old friend .....I hope you will think of me up there as I think of you...our times together are locked in my heart....
