beannacht......yes paddy corcoran.....and as soon as i had epatched my posting i recalled his name......i had many a pint with paddy......and remember drinking with him in the imperial......gery cootor with his cork accent.....and at times i wondered who was leading whom....gerry leading the bike or the bike leading gerry.....do i have stories of the patients going up to the field on the breaffy road.....they were packed into this trailer behind a tractor with "mental attendents'usually george fair....and a mr mcevilly...........you could smell the swill they were given for food....this swill was stored in big churn type tanks..... ....in roscommon.....they'd all be dressed in their institutional grey suits....complete with grey cap.....they'd be brought to the"mental hospital field" .....there they worked on the potato crop all day ....at about 4 they'd be escorted back to the asylum......as kids we were scared a litle of them.....but they were harmless victims of a society screwed up....mans inhumanity to man....i got to know some of them ....not on a personal way....but i was along with joe foy....the main altar boys ....at the church in st.marys......fr. morley was the chaplain......they had a mass at 7am....and so i'd cycle up to the big green gates manned by ms. loftus.....we'd have to report to her going in and coming out.....in th church they often moved up towards the altar as we were getting it ready for mass.......the females would wander right up only to be forcibly removed by the staff.....after mass as we made our way to our bikes...the patients would come to the windows ...and call us over.......anoither time i appeared on the stage in the mentalin the....once aboard the lugger....i did'nt have a starring role.....just a sailor....[my agent was'nt on speaking terms with bro.baptist....]...i will get to many more stories about the mental hospital in further postings....because there are many from times at the ball ally.....to the slaughter house .....the many sports events....in the mental sports grounds.....they had a cycle trackand i remember many bicycle races there...the jennings brothers from milebus...featured many times...there was a certain eerieness about the dome.....dr.gilvarry was the registered psychiatrist......he later got killed driving to dublin ..one cold wintry....road iced day....there was another doctor there ...whose name has slipped through my cracks...but he had a daughter called marian...amd a son called allen....i believe marian npw lives in keel.....la eile ....sceil eile....slan....tog go bog e.....
