Local historical items..

Posted by Conor on September 07, 2008 at 10:56:28:

I'm doing some research on the Famine in Mayo and I was looking at old newspaper reports regarding the row,Mayo Councillors/officials had with the authoress, Cecil Woodham-Smith.She had ommitted any mention of their support & access to vital documents, when she wrote "The Great Hunger" and as a result, a no of letters flew between them. She did apologise and gave a talk in Castlebar a few years later. The correspondence was subsequently, given to the 'Mayo Education Centre' located in the Mall, by the then Co. Manager,Liam O'Lochlainn.
The question I have now is, where did these letters and other items of local/historical interest go as the premises in the Mall is now used as a Church once again?
I did ask at the County Library but they didn't receive these items?
