In the news at the moment, is the movie “The Duchess” based on Amanda Foreman's biography of the scandalous, 18th-century English aristocrat Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire and starring Keira Knightley.
The Duchess in question was a sister of the 2nd Earl Spencer, George John (1758-1834) who married Castlebar woman, Lady Lavinia Bingham, daughter of Charles Bingham, 1st Earl of Lucan whom in Castlebar, Spencer Street & Park is named after.
Also another connection, the Duchess’s husband, the Duke of Devonshire (William Cavendish) was related to the founder of the Connaught Telegraph, Lord Frederick Cavendish.
