Posted by Brian Hoban on September 08, 2008 at 10:46:20: Perhaps you would be interested in the life of Martin Sheridan, born in Bohola in 1881 and considered to this day the greatest Irish born Olympian ever. When he toured Irelland in 1909 following the London Olympics he visited Mayo. He gave an exhibitin of his track and field skills in Ballina and was guest of honour at a dinner held in The Imperial Hotel (now Quattro). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Sheridan To coincide with the centenary of his great win in London an American T.V. crew are planning to visit Mayo in 2009 to film a documentary on the life of this great Mayo man.
