Jer and all, lots of outstanding memories of Mc Hale park from someone that lived on Mc Hale road for years.I remember it been surrounded with a galvanised fence.Does anyone remember the Dump,it used to be over behind the bacon factory goal.We as children played in the sports field as we used to call it,when the caretaker was not there to run us out.The Football and hurling games played between davitts, emmets, pearses.and mc hales, who could forget them.Going around the seats after a Big Match, looking for disguarded Change, finders keepers. The Day of a big Match gitting the mayo flag and Buntings out the top window, still done today.I remember the first buntings that were made,Mrs Mac Ellin at no 8 had a singer sowing machine as did my mother at 71,how they became friends I dont know. But I Remember them been on the machines day after sowing Up buntings for neighbours,If Im not mistaken the first bunting were done for the Marian Year in the early 50s,along with the erection of the Statue to Our Lady.
