a cara....spencer street was bounded by the mall ....pa gavins.... the county council offices......and the courthouse......the courthouse way back once upon a good time stood supported by its pillars as some roman arena ....the steps up to the grand hall were somewhat threatening.....for inside this maouseleum was the "rooms of justice".....when we were young when the circuit court sat we would watch the barristers congregate at the imperial hotel in their gowns and wigs.....the circuit court judge would be heralded into the courthouse as some great caesar.....the local siocholonie would form a guard of honor....sgt. steve dunphie ....and before him ...sgt patsy egan...aka patsy fagan....would parade his gendarmerie in military step to the court house....here they would seperate file into two lines of troops...."here comes da judge".....would arrive under guard ....the acting sgt would ...shout attention....the boys in blue would come to attention and salute....the judge would walk between the lines in gown and wig with the super as his escort.....pompously and somberly the judge would go his chambers.......until the the court registrar would summon all and sundry....with yea..yea ....all would rise as this symbol of justice sat on his dais....next a day in the circuit court....
