The famine memorial in Murrisk and the Peace Park in Castlebar are two good Mayo memorials that remember the past but do not rake up old divisions.

Some people want to make political capital out of these memorials but both are aimed at the ordinary people of this country and this county. They will be remembered long after the ramblings of others have fallen silent.
