As far as I am aware, the demise of the Castlebar - Auray twinning has little to do with the Town Council. I'd say it is primarily due to the fact that our youth are not sufficiently interested in learning French on an such an exchange basis - which is a pity, as it put the cost of exchange within the reach of practically all students. Another possible reason is that the personnel initially involved retired after many years of service and nobody seemed interested in taking their place. It is all very sad as there was so much to gain from the twinning.
