LOUGH LANNAGH CASTLE

Posted by Brian Hoban on May 05, 2009 at 21:08:05:

The recent development of walking trails in the castle field is a welcome additional to an area of exceptional beauty. It is worrying however to see the misrepresentation of the regions history.

One correspondent refers to the castle as " Abbot castle", while a local election candidate refers to it as "Barry's Castle." The truth however is that little is known about the history of this castle, other than that it is probably a Norman tower house from the mid 16th century.

It is important to accurately record history where possible and maybe offer opinions form evidence . It is misleading to try and invent or rewrite history.
