The Four Day's Walks are well and good, but there doesn't seem to be any great community involvement asked by the Walks Committee themselves either. Do they ask local business for support, hold community fundraisers?
There is a need to get the Castlebar general public involved in supporting the celebration of the walks...I'm sure there are lots of ways to involve people in Castlebar and get the civic spirit thriving again. The Walking Festival has so much latent potential - nobody seems to capitalise on it. Make the whole thing into a true cultural celebration in the town rather than the low-key insular affair it is at the moment.

I think the Four Days Walks is all a completely voluntary organisation, it can’t be easy devoting time to such an event in a part time capacity. Maybe they should consider having a full time person to bring a bit of professionalism and coordination to getting the festival achieve its maximum potential?
