a cara.........dr.john bresnihan ...ah! now theres a name.....how often as i walked to school i would gaze at his name plate......a tall distinguished man....with a peaceful coutenance and a gentle smile.....i was caddied for him at the golf course.....i think it was the captains prize....that was the closest igot to a putter and golf ball......i remember going to the tee off ...with him anf a fr. hopkins......he didnt win but i got a few bob..... as the locals particularly around the road used to call him....dr brosnan.....well i remember going into his theatre of dreams ..enabled by michael ralph on a gurney with big bicycle wheels......i can still hear the hissing of those wheels on the rubber based halls......shining like bresnihans scalpel...... and after ....a waft of ether...and soon i was finding a sudden rush ...and then it was happeninf ...feeling myself suspended from a precipice.....falling into miltons dungeon horrible on all sides round.....no light visible....the fear of falling into this bottomless pit.......wafting and drifting in psychedelic strobes.....of course later in life these inebriating experiences were enhanced with other chemicals.......but the fears of these experiences were magnanimous....i guess if those parlours of pleasure were around in my day....of course i would be found there.....but compelled to be repeated.....yet ireland particulary practised the pleasure of ether ....as the church pushed the drive of temperance...in the mid 18 hundreds...........the hope i dreamed of was a dream.....was but a dream.....and now i wake.....exceeding comfortless....and worn.....and old.....for a dreams sake.....
i did not know whether i was then a man.....dreming i was abutterfly.....or whether i am now a butterfly dreaming i am a man.....
.....thank you butch for your inspiring words....
anois.....mo cara....tog go bog e.....
