I met him several times and found him to be the soundest of the sound. I first met him at a St Pat's day event in New York. I had recently published my own book and he was most encouraging and very interested. He spent ages telling me how he had waited so long for success and really made me feel positive. I later met him at Listowel Writers Week and he remembered our earlier chat. We went for tea in a small cafe and he wanted all the details of my progress - which didn't take long!- about education in Ireland generally. A genuinely decent man.
