The Castlebar old cemetery would be derilect by now were it not for the great efforts of Eddie Hoban and Ernie Sweeney, Ernie Sweeney spends all his spare time cleaning memorials and footpaths in the cemetery, he gets no recognition, payment or thanks for it. They leave it there as a decoration, talk about pride in their work. Eddie Hoban regularly organised the tarmacing of the pathways, but the lugs who cut the grass make a point to turn the mower around so that it will throw the grass all over the newly done pathway.
