The Young family were an old Castlebar family associated with the town since the early 1800's when a Mary Young opened a Stationery/Grocery business on Bridge St.The last Governor of Castlebar Gaol was Davis R.Young who died in Feb.1902.His son was William Young and he was the Agent of the Earl of Lucan ie Like a P.A./Lawyer,he took care of the Earls interests around Casttlebar and represented him for example on the Board of Castlebar Gas Company, where his father was also a shareholder.
Also, it was in William Young's house in Ellison Street, that the famous Temperance priest, Fr.Theobald Matthew stayed when he visited Castlebar.
