a cara......thanx again butch......and as i have discovered and is enshrined in the mosaic of my journey....flattery gets you evrything.......but indeed gratias......dave allen was indeed a funny man....and his tv series which aired here on pbs.....was one of my favourite shows....his patented stool and glass....and yes indeed he lost part of his index finger.....he often joked how he lost it....his brother bit it off when his jaws locked....etc...but it appears he lost it when his hand got caught in a cog.......his real name ....david tynan omahoney....born in dublin.....his father was managing editor of the irish times.....dave worked for the drogheda argus for a brief period as he followed his father into journalism...going to england quite young.....hejoined butlins for awhile as a redcoat....then got into comedy and in fact toure england and europe with the then unknown beatles in 1961......he also appeared in an edna obrien play.....a pagan place....sadly he died in his sleep in 2005....aged 68.....a comic genius....
