a cara.......thank you brian for the list.....everyone of those shops i remember very well.....let me include tom clarkes station road, minouges barrack bridge, my father had a sweet and grocery shop at number 10 mchale road 1938-1942, morans on castle street, there was a shop on new line.....the name wont come to me although as a boy i was in it every day getting things for my grandparents, julia heneghans, the geraghty sisters spencer street, doyles where the tf is now they were the caretakers of the cemetery,morans castle lane noted for their icecream on paper...where my good friend george whittaker coined his "petition" give me a penny an' i'll pray for you,....condons on ellison street opposite josie bourkes garage,redmonds spencer street...noted for their cakes and toblerone chocolate.....the garden shop noted for their high class confectionery especially clarnico murray iced carmels.....ah.....those shops....the memories....
