Hi Gemma, the lovely cherry blossom trees were planted in April 1960 by Castlebar I.C.A. to mark the golden jubilee of the organisation. They originally planned to plant a monkey puzzle tree but were unable to obtain a tree large enough. The trees were given by Mrs. Mgt McGuinness, ICA President. Thomas McDonnell, Chairman, C/bar UDC formally planted the trees and they were blessed by Fr. A O’Toole, CC. Present were: Mrs. Molly Ketterick, President, Mrs. T.Daly, Vice-President, Mrs. Nuala Armstrong, Secretary, Mrs. P.Fahey, Mrs. K.Egan, Mrs. M.Killian, Mr. S.Hunt, Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer and Mr. P.Jennings, Secretary, Macra na Feirme.
