a cara.....one for the road.....i uttered that many a time ...and one more for the road....after that....it was a long road.....incidentally i stood at the mall in the fca's finest green as a3 star private when that monument was officially unveiled by dev and sean t.....i remember his address then and as a proud member of connradh na gaeilge understood everything dev said in irish.....however there was a funny incident....in the weeks prior to the event we were drilled in the military parade and protocols
.....jack loftus was the officer in charge.....no matter what command you hear said jack.....when i give the order turn left to parade back to the barracks....well....as we stood at attention at the mall ...and monument for ....inspection by sean t.....after the anthem and inspection...our command was to have us make a left turn to march past the ....presedential dais....jack gave his command in gaelic ...of course....but got his ...irish directions screwed up.....deis umpi....jack yelled ....well ....half the platoon turnrd left and the other turned right....i remember i turned left.....frank fergus who was at my left turned right.....after we re organised we marched back to the barracks....jumped on some army trucks ...wgere we did an honour guard at frenchill.....then it was back to ....town ....luddens /heverins castle strret for a feed....then.....a few pints....not at eddy cannons....eddy was in my fca troop.....and we had many a laugh in renmore....and finner....particulary at bradys ...cavan house...bundoran........you talk of mayo ...once again raising the ...sam maguire........well if you look at the photo taken at st.geralds.....with eamon mongey ....tom langan.....paddy prendergast...and students...and others...i am standing in the very back row....i dont think i will see that spirit or player magnificence again in my ....lifetime.....so i wont be buying any flags or bunting.....now my friend .....lets head to john kennys......for ceann eile....
