John P mcCormack was my grandfather. One of my earliest memories of him was when he called to out home at the shore. It was a bad day, there was a gale blowing, thunder rolled and rumbled and the lightening was flashing of Croagh Patrick. my parents were away from home and we, childrenl , and our minder were terrified. Granda roared laughing and insisted that we all come outside to witness St. parick lighting his pipe .Thunder rolled, 'try again Parick', roared granda. Lightenng flashed, 'Well done, Patrick,' laughed Granda. 'Enjoy that pipe ! He also had us convinced that his men were going to dig a canal to castlebar to bring the sea over . He was also toying with the idea of bringing the reek over to Castlebar. he talked of walking to Westport on many occasion to either play in or be a spectator at a match, GAA? or Rugby?, he was unique as he played both.!
