Well, over the years and on my many travels I have met lots of people from all over Ireland and quite a few from Co.Mayo. However, rarely have I bumped into people from the town of my birth, Castlebar.

My wife Frances and I were on a recent Norwegian Cruise Lines cruise from Port Caneveral Florida to Nassau, St.Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and St.Martaan in the Carribbean, on board the Norwegian Sun. One morning I decided to visit the spa area of the ship to check out the facilities with my wife, when at the reception desk our ears picked out that lovely Irish accent. I was, of course, quick to ask the young lady, where she was from and she responded, Ireland. On further interrogation I discovered she was from Co. Mayo and then I informed her that I too was from Co. Mayo.I asked her what part of Mayo and she responded, Castlebar. Well needless to say I was thrilled as I told her that I also was from Castlebar. Now this young lady was Anne McNicholas. We threw about some names of people we knew from the town and in particular, McHale Road and she knew quite a few of them. It is indeed a small world and it is always a great thrill to meet people from Castlebar even in the middle of The Carribbean. It just goes to show you that Castlebar people get around.
