I'm trying to do a bit of research and was hoping that someone might be able to either assist me or point me in the right direction.

I've been doing some family history research and have been trying to find out more about a gentleman by the name of Patrick Mullaney. He was my wife's grandfather's commander in the Old IRA during the War of Independence and Civil War. I believe he died in about 1979 and lived around Balla and Castlebar; i also believe that he was heavily involved in the Mayo GAA in later years. I'm trying to contact anyone that that might know anything about his time in the black and tan war and the civil war?

As i'm in australia it is somewhat difficult for me to carry out research in Ireland. I hope that someone might be able to point me in the right direction or put me in touch with someone who might be able to assist me.
