a cara......joe blowick ....was yes ...one mayo's favourite politicians.....one of his most notable speeches....on ellison street....in the '40s ....was his statement...."people of caslebar and the surrounding districts....when i entered parliament in 1943 .....ireland was in a quare state.....the fianna fail party bought tulyar at a total cost of 50 thousand pounds...."
joe ....was a member of the clann na talmhan....and became its leader .....in the coalition government of 1949...he was appointed ...minister for lands...he held that portfolio.....with esteem....and was in high regard as a politician.....he was a regular visitor to our home at 10 mchale road ...as he and my father were close friends.....he could often be seen at market square getting in and out of his fiord cutomline state car....as he liked to shop at molloys....and visit another of hios friends ....the bicycle king...willie munnelly.....joe was a big man.....and the trail of his cigar smoke.....made him an unique personality.....he lived near carnacon....and was brother to the feisty....fr. blowick....of islandaedy....his ....rally speeches were gems.....and i can still him on the platform.....outside tansy's.....yelling down to micheal omorain.....i will not engage myself in a tinkers fight ...with no man........
he retired from the political arena ....around the mid '60s....later the clann na talmhan was disolved...... away in 1970...
...he passed away in 1970...
