Br Denis was a brutal man. He tried to teach through terror and fear. I have often used my memories of him as an argument against corporal punishment. I was given four slaps with the leather twice a week for 2 years for untidy writing. My writing is still terrible. In fact, secretaries in several continents have struggled to interpret my scrawl. I still remember specific lads who wet themselves in abject terror in the classroom when Denis flew into one of his rages. He is long gone and while they say not to speak ill of the dead, there is no point in hiding the truth.
