Found an interesting piece in a 1920 edition of the Connaught Telegraph regarding the re-naming of Castlebar’s streets. In a burst of patriotic fervour it was proposed to rename the streets after notable Irish figures and events. The following are the proposed changes

Linenhall St., Rush St. and Gallows Hill were to remain unchanged..
It seems the proposal did not meet with popular approval seeing as the streets, to this day, retain their old names.
