I wonder if there is any link between the Castle builders and the ringfort in the same field and I'd say there's a fair chance that the 'tunnel' under the lake probably refers to a souterrain often associated with Early Medieval forts. Stories of souterrains (underground tunnels, passages, chambers or 'caves') are often hugely exagerated but have some basis in fact. They rarely extend far beyond the limits of the ringfort.
