a cara.....yes indeed ....way back then good friday was a very solemn ...sombre....day....and people appeared to be more connected to the significance of good friday....they seemed to reflect ....and good friday ....seemed to reinforce ones own mortality....of course back in those days.....the church had a great grip on the people....and inflicted fire and brimstone sermons....lenten rules were preached ...and indirectly enforced....ireland had yet not had the effect of tv....radio itself was broadcast on limited schedules....we were isolated but didnt know it....radio eireann ....was a treasured medium.....and it gave good programming ....even back then....and their music solemnity on good friday was in keeping with the mind set of the people....and thats a good thing....i am not a religious man ...nor would i pontificate....but in todays ultra fast moving self indulgent world ...a solemn day of reflection is a good thing....i have first hand knowledge of how other groups respect their religious holidays.....the muslims totally respect their ramadan...and other religious seasons....the jews respect their feasts....such as passover and yom kippur etc....so the easter days are a time of solemnity ....
