The gist of it is that the informer, on seeing the Humbert landing, set out on horseback towards Castlebar to inform the english. The priest set out in pursuit, overtook the informer and convinced him not to continue with his mission, thus depriving the english of the information which could have changed the course of the subsequent battle.
