In January 1967, a delegation from Castlebar flew from the local airport to Aldergrove, Belfast for a 4 day visit. The 'twinning' was arranged by Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and the idea was to promote friendship, trade and tourism between the two towns. The delegation was made up of Ml. J Egan,Solicitor, Robert Kilkelly, Sean Horkan, Joseph Egan, Co Engineer and John MacHale, Journalist from the Connaught Telegraph. They met and had tea with Captain Terence O'Neill, PM of Northern Ireland at Stormont. Later on boxing teams and choirs from Ballymena came to visit Castlebar.
