commandeering Nevins Farm

Posted by Royal on July 01, 2012 at 15:56:58:

One of the big local stories that dominated the headlines back in 1958 was when 11 farmers from the Kilkenny-Baloor villages near Castlebar, ‘commandeered’ a 64 acre farm known as ‘Nevins Farm’. It had been bought by the Land Commission six years previously to be subdivided but the local farmers became angry that nothing could be done as the owner had left for America and there was still some legal matters to be clarified. They ploughed and sowed 6 acres with corn but the story didn’t have a happy ending for them. They were successfully prosecuted for trespass by a cattle dealer who had used the farm for grazing.
Anyone know what happened to the ‘Farm’ in the intervening years?
