Hallo Gents,

Greetings from the wilds of Transylvania,

I have an extensive research history on Castlebar Infantry Barracks and Castlebar Artillery Barracks, later called the Cavalry Barracks, both date from 1828 period.

The British never called it anything other than Castlebar Infantry Barracks 1828 - 1922, I served there as a member of the P.D.F. for many years until I retired in 1997, up to that point it never officially had any name, so as far as I can determine the naming is relatively modern.

It would be nice to think they named in honour of one of the 5th Cav's finest P.D.F. members Sgt Paddy Mitchell, a gentleman and a scholar.
