In a Mayo News article, dealing with emigrants working and living in America, dated the 19th Dec 1896, it mentions a Stephen Gibbons who left Westport thirty five years ago (1861)and who has numerous relations in Westport and on Clare Island and who is uncle to a Thomas O'Boyle of Newport. It states that he works for the Catholic World newspaper in New York and that his son is a manager of one of Macy's Stores.
