Garda are continuing their inquiry into the strange reapperance of missing property developer Kevin McGeever who was found dumped on the side of the road on the Cavan-Leitrim border last week.
I wonder was it his firm McKeever Bros., that was involved in the construction of a number of houses in and around Castlebar, during the 1960’s? In all news reports, the person found has his surname spelt with a ‘g’ whilst the firm which built houses in the town had their name spelt with a ‘k’.
In October 1968, the Swinford firm won a prize in Woman’s Way magazine for a house they constructed in Spencer Park, which won the “Elegant House of the Month”. They were congratulated at a ceremony in Breaffy House Hotel, attended by the late John Heneghan, Castlebar UDC. One of the principal directors was a Kevin McKeever, described as a 23 year old forward looking businessman, who has travelled widely for new ideas. The bungalow cost £5,500 at the time.
The following year, a new housing estate, McKeever Park was advertised in local 'papers, to be built in Castlebar and named after the firm of contractors 'McKeever Bros'.It was to consist of 24 houses; semi-detatched three bedroomed houses, costing in the region of £4,000 each. They were located in Knockthomas - the residents decided to change the name of the estate some time later.
