Mrs Townsend Gahan was mother of Muriel Gahan, who founded the Irish Countrywomen's Association ,who lived for a period in Creragh Villa (situated where Lough Lannagh Holiday Village.

Her husband Townsend Gahan , a Donegal man worked for The Congested District Board - a body set up to improve the conditions of people in the poorest areas in the West of Ireland. In the autumn of 1900 he moved to Castlebar and took up residence at Creagh Villa (now Lough Lannagh Holiday Village).
