A native of Sligo, Mr. O’Quigley taught in the midlands where he met and married his wife, a Carlow woman and fellow National School Teacher. Appointed around 1915 as Principal of Snugboro N.S., their large family, which included a priest (Fr. Michael) and a nun (Sr. Miriam) moved into the teacher’s residence which was located nearby. Mrs. O’Quigley passed away in 1937 which was around the time he built the substantial house in Blackfort. In 1942, Mr. O’Quigley retired from Snugboro NS and concentrated on local politics/Labour Party. He later sold his residence in Blackfort known as ‘Ard Muire’ in December 1955 and moved to Dublin where he died.
