An old Castlebar name. I found reference to a John C. Garvey, sheriff, Castlebar as early as the 1830s and in to the 1850s.
Later, John Garvey was a master tailor and rate collector in Castlebar as early as the 1870s. He had sons Michael and George, both tailors. A Charles Garvey was a councillor here in 1904.
Harry Garvey, who died in 1981, had brothers George and Paddy living in Castlebar.
There is of course Mickey Garvey, Chicago, originally from Castlebar. His parents were John and Susan Garvey. Gussie Garvey, Lower Charles Street, Castlebar was Mickey's brother.
May be some leads there for you.
