Hospital requests were introduced after the war WW2....radio eireann began to broadcast longer periods ....as during the war and earlier ...it's first broadcast was at 1pm.....closing at 2.30 and reopening at 6pm....request programmes were popular on the b.b.c ...family favourites...housewife choice...etc .....so radio eireann explored request programmes ....Ireland was rife in T.B. so many were sent to sanatariums for long periods....and this anviled hospital requests.....of course general hospitals were included ...scarlet fever ...was also rampant and in fact swinford had a fever hospital.

Sanatariums in castlerea ...creagh house ....beleek ...peamount ..merlin Park cared for the West of Ireland. ..
Peamount was in Dublin and was for children...
Later on merlin Park operated their own hospital radio station on Friday niğts...and their signature tune ....wheels.....was always a warming sound on Friday nights.....I was there in 1961 undergoing a spinal fusion under the care of Drs Matt little...Jim roaches .and Dr chater. ...
